Recently Channel 4’s Dispatches revealed River Island, New Look, Boohoo and Missguided are using factories that are paying workers between £3 and £3.50 an hour, that is less than the National Minimum Wage, you can read the article here.
Our Associate Solicitor Natalie Spink shares her thoughts on these findings.
‘Shocking……. Most of us are aware that some of the clothes we wear unfortunately come from factories overseas where men, women and sometimes children work in awful conditions being paid a pittance, however, over the recent months we have seen more and more of our high street stores coming under scrutiny and being named and shamed for paying less than the national minimum wage here in the UK. You would have thought the Sports Direct scandal would have been enough to make employers get their house in order, however, it appears not and the latest offenders are textile firms in the UK making clothes for top fashion names such as River Island, New Look, Boohoo and Missguided!
If you are worried that you might be underpaying your employees, don’t bury your head in the sand, call me on 0115 870 0150 or email me at natalie@yourhrlawyer.co.uk, we can help’.
