A Date for the Diary: Friday 8th May 2020

Next year’s early May Bank Holiday has been put back by four days! 

Traditionally, May Day is held on a Monday but in 2020, this will be moved back to Friday 8^th May to coincide with the 75^th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day). 

VE Day marks the day when fighting against Nazi Germany came to an end in Europe during World War Two.

As an employer, you may need to review the operational requirements for May next year in order to minimise the effects of this Bank Holiday change on your business. 

It would be beneficial to inform your staff sooner rather than later. This way, they are able to plan ahead and request any relevant periods of annual leave in advance. Thus, leading to you being able to plan your workforce effectively. 

Furthermore, take a look at your part-time workers. Do any of them usually work Fridays rather than Mondays? If so, they may need to use some of their holiday allowance to cover this Bank Holiday. Best to inform them in advance to avoid any HR issues.
