2017 has a been an eventful year for Employment law, but the most signficant change has been the abolition of Tribunal fees.
Employment Tribunal Issue fees were controversial when they were introduced in 2013. The main complaint was that the fees prohibited access to justice for many individuals who could not afford them. Claims dropped by 79% in 3 years however since the fees were scrapped in July 2017, claims have increased by 50%! To see such a big increase in claims in such a short space of time is a good indicator of what is to come.
It is now more important than ever to make sure that you are handling your HR and Employment law issues properly. Would you be able to defend a Tribunal Claim against you? Are you doing things properly or are you ‘winging it’, hoping that you don’t get caught out?
