We are a charitable bunch and have supported a number of causes over the years by sponsoring events, fundraising or providing pro bono services to them. It’s important to us to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
Back in September, we sponsored and supported the Glitter Ball in aid of the Motor Neurons Disease Association. A few weeks later, we secured some PR for the event in order to raise the profile of the charity within the business community. This was seen by the East Midlands Fundraising Manager for the NSPCC who got in touch to see if we would be interested in supporting Childline, which is part of the NSPCC.
We were invited to the Childline base in Nottingham and were privileged to meet Esther Rantzen. Before our visit, we had a perception that, as a national charity, they would be extremely well-funded and that it would all look grander than is was. There was no grandeur, no fancy pop up banners or branded mugs, just a building full or incredible people, passionate about helping children and young people who are alone or in danger.
Esther told us that the Nottingham branch of Childline was the first one set up outside of London 30 years ago. We didn’t even know that we had a branch here. Esther read emails from adults who had contacted Childline as children, thanking the service for its support. It was overwhelming to hear heart-warming stories. Esther is a very special person with a huge heart too.
We knew in a heartbeat that we wanted to support the NSPCC and Childline East Midlands as our charity of the year for 2018. We look forward to working with them in any way we can to raise those important funds for such a vital service. We may call on you to help, donate, sponsor, attend events, bake, or simply to tell people about the amazing work that they do.
Esther told us that Childline answers 3 out of every 4 calls to the helpline. We want to help them get to that fourth child. As the NSPCC says “every childhood is worth fighting for.” and we couldn’t agree more.
